Hi,
I’m Jess Roland. This is my exceptional husband, 3 beautiful daughters (aged 10, 11, & 14), & two sweet pups. After becoming a mum, being extremely sleep deprived, and feeling like motherhood was a blur, I started to really fall in love with photography. Let me explain. None of my girls slept through the night until after 1 year, & then still continued to wake up most nights for the first 5 years. I also started to deal with depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, & migraines. I felt like I was just trying to get through each day, without the capacity to enjoy those ‘sweet tiny baby moments’.
My girls were growing so quickly. I blinked & then they weren’t babies anymore. That’s when I fell in love with photography the most. Due to my chronic health issues, I had felt like I missed everything with my girls. Though, because I had taken pictures during this time, I still got to enjoy all of their tinniness later. It helped me to remember the things that I would have forgotten. The memories still live on because of those photos! That’s when I grew a deep appreciation for newborn, baby, toddler, & children photography.
After getting my Diploma in Photography, I just knew I had to specialise in these areas, so that I could help other mums during this early parenthood stage. I’ve completed 100s of hours of training to specialise in newborn photography. I have learned from some of the best newborn & family photographers all over the world. I’ve taken newborn safety courses, from medical advisers, to make sure newborn safety & comfort is the highest priority. This includes being up to date with ALL of the vaccinations needed to work closely with newborns (advised by midwives & paediatricians). I’ve also worked as a photographer for 2 different companies, photographing thousands of toddlers to school aged children, and families. I also have experience working with, and photographing children with additional support needs.
Having children of my own, I’m able to photograph with the eyes and heart of a mum. I know just how important it is to freeze those special moments in time with a picture. I want to help you keep those memories alive, so you can look back on it, as the years go by. I look forward to creating artwork of your family to cherish for generations to come!
Jess xx
P.S. I wanted to add a special note to the new puppy parents as well. I’ve dedicated a lot of my photography career to newborns, children, & families. Though, over the past 2 1/2 years, my family has gotten 2 little puppies. They have added so much joy, encouragement, & motivation to my life, that I didn’t realise I needed. They have gotten me out of the house to get sunshine & exercise, when I didn’t want to move. They have given me affection, when I have felt super discouraged. They have given me companionship, when I’ve felt lonely. I finally understand the saying that ‘dogs are a man’s best friend’. They are incredibly special! This is why I have decided to start focusing on puppy photography as well. My puppies put smiles on my face all day long. I look forward to creating artwork for you that will make you smile (and squeal) too.
